Prevention of transport losses

Approximately 80 % of all marine claims can be avoided or minimized.

• Some 30 to 35 % of all damages to goods is attributable to theft, pilferage and non-delivery.
• 40 % of annual losses are attributable to bad stowage, rough and improper handling or even pre-shipment operations.
• Approximately 10 % of all damages to goods is caused by water, condensation and corrosion.
• Often losses are connected, e.g. athe contents of a case which is damaged by rough handling subsequently suffers water damage or is pilfered.
• Only approximately 20 % of all transport damage can actually be classified as unavoidable, as its cause is attributable to heavy seas, fire and all hazards of nature, but also war and political occurrences.
